Sa'al Steps - The trekking spot of Oman

A great way to keep yourself mentally and physically healthy, all while exploring nature's beauty is Hiking. Sa'al steps or Sa'al mountain is a challenging uphill 2km long trekking spot, located in the outskirts of Muscat. It is 36.8 km from Muscat and takes around Although it is considered to be a short trek, it surely isn't an easy one.

It kicks off as a dirt road, halfway through, you can see the colossal uneven cemented steps, there are about 650 steps leading you to the top of the mountain which brings you to another dirt road taking you to a 360° view of the beautiful surrounding mountains, wadis and the Sa'al village itself.

The view is worth the short but effortful climb. The best time to trek here is either early morning where you will be able to enjoy the sunrise or just before sunset to capture a great view and also to reduce the effects of the heat.

The uphill portion of the trek usually takes about 35-45 minutes to finish. If you are not an active trekker, it is advised to take short breaks in between to let your body adjust to the surrounding atmosphere.

While trekking can be a fun activity here, it is also important to take some precautions before you plan on visiting this spectacular place.
Consider wearing hiking shoes or footwear with good ankle support, as the path is quite rocky and unstable.
Carry a sufficient amount of water to keep yourself hydrated.
If there children or young adults in the group, supervision is a must, especially during the uphill portion of the trek.
If you plan on going after sunset, make sure you carry all the necessities like torch, food, blankets, mats. Although early morning is the safest time to visit this place.
Lastly, it is advised to wear clothes made out of synthetic materials as they absorb maximum sweat keeping you dry and allow your body to breathe more.
Sa'al mountain definitely is a picturesque place that invigorates you. Great and refreshing to travel with family and friends.
